Hello!
I'm Jourdan, I am 26 years old, I work in e-commerce and live in Northern Ireland. I started running shortly before lockdown in 2020 and what began as a bit of an escape during the 'one exercise a day' Covid-19 rule quickly became a goal to run my first marathon. After sponsoring through Compassion for 5 years I knew immediately that I wanted to use my privilege of being able to run freely and without limits (except for some injuries along the way) to make a change to the lives of children living in poverty in however small a way that may be.
Compassion believes "every child matters and deserves to be safe, fed, educated and empowered".
I was fortunate enough to visit two of the children I sponsor in Kenya in 2018 and I was able to see firsthand the impact that Compassion has on their lives and their communities. An important thing for me is that Compassion always works in partnership with the local church and is rooted in each individual community. It was so encouraging to see how so many of those who led the projects I visited were once Compassion children themselves and now helping to empower and change the lives of the next generation.
All donations raised by myself and the marathon team are going towards Compassion's Coronavirus Response fund. This fund will enable Compassion's church partners to provide children, families, and wider communities with health and stability through hygiene, food, and housing security.
