The challenge is the Rwenzori Mountains in Uganda (5,100mt, 16,700ft)
With a group of other 13 people we will go up to 4,600mt (15,100ft) to raise awareness and help children deprived of the basic necessity of clean drinking water in the area.
Situated near the slopes of mount Rwenzori and the plains of the East African Rift valley, these projects are assisting hundreds of impoverished children. As the areas are not suitable for borehole or spring construction, the children we are helping are becoming sick from drinking dirty water (cholera and typhoid and a number of other things that I prefer to avoid describing) that they collect miles away from their homes with the additional risk of being kidnapped and raped (with the resulting spread of AIDS).
The consumption of clean water will greatly improve local wellbeing, reduce disease and save children and their caregivers from walking long distances to fetch water. Educational benefits will be restored as the children will no longer have to worry about fetching water instead of attending school. Caregivers will also benefit from having time to invest in income generating activities that would raise the level of disposable income in the homes of these children.
Thank you for your help!
