I am more used to running on the flat than walking on an incline, so this will be a very different challenge for me.
On 30 May 2017 with a team from St Mark’s I will embark on a challenge to climb Mount Kilimanjaro - the highest mountain in Africa, the fourth highest of the world’s Seven Summits, and the highest free-standing mountain in the world at 5,895m (19,341ft)! I will be taking on the cold, sleeping in tents and altitude sickness in an attempt to complete this exciting mission and tick one thing off my bucket list in advance of an, ahem, milestone birthday later this year.
I am doing this in aid of a Compassion RESPOND Initiative designed to strengthen the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS specifically in the Kilimanjaro, Arusha and Manyara regions of Tanzania by increasing HIV testing and counselling (HTC) for early diagnosis, promoting behavioural change through enhanced knowledge and improving access to affordable care and treatment.
All money I raise will go straight to Compassion to make a difference in these regions long into the future. So exciting!
Before the climb, I will see Compassion’s work in action as I spend a few days with those impacted by their work and seeing the difference Compassion's child sponsorship project makes to children's lives and their futures, at Mariakani, a small town around 30 miles from Mombasa.
