My name is Tom, I'm 32, proud husband of Esther and father of two wonderful girls, and I'm running the London Marathon 2022 for Compassion. I'm a primary school teacher by trade and so fitting in long training runs around work and family will be a genuine challenge. I'm proud though to be representing Team Compassion at this year's London marathon and will give it my all from first training run to last step on October 2nd!
Running the London marathon has been high on my bucket list for years. I competed in the virtual version last year, but lost in my own thoughts in the country roads of rural Northamptonshire for 26.2 miles left me feeling I had unfinished business! When the opportunity came up to run the real deal in London for Compassion, it was an absolute no-brainer. I've supported Compassion for years, sponsoring a boy called Gerardo in El Salvador initially, and now a girl called Anita in Uganda. The work Compassion does literally saves lives, and so I'm more than willing to put myself through 5 hours of city-based pain if it means I can raise some much needed money for their fabulous projects!

Tom, as you reach Mile 22, here are 4 things to remember about pain:
1. Pain is pleasure
2. Pain is temporary, glory is forever
3. Pain is only weakness leaving the body
4. Pain is French for 'Bread'!
Good luck!!
