Compassion Challenges -Susi & Joel Shears

Challenger Profile

Name:

Susi & Joel Shears

Challenge Date:

1st May 2024

My Challenge:

We’re running across Togo for Compassion, without leaving the UK.

For us, this is a challenge that really matters because our family sponsors a child in Togo through Compassion UK.

Togo’s educational resources are limited. Many young people have access to few books and no internet. As a result, they can’t progress onto higher education and miss out on the stable income that a graduate job secures.

Compassion Togo is close to completing a youth resource centre in Togo’s capital Lomé. This will enable 500 young people to continue learning and pursue their dreams.

But it needs funding. That’s why we’re taking on Compassion UK’s Togo 100km Virtual Challenge.

Over the next three months, we will run/walk/hike/cycle 100km. In the gym, around the park, through our streets.

We want to raise at least £1 for each kilometre we achieve.

We’re up for the challenge. Will you help us cross the finishing line?

My son, Joel and I love to keep fit. He especially loves to play football for his 2 teams. (As Joel is sitting his GCSE's he/we will undertake most of this challenge after they are finished at the end of June.)

Because we as a family sponsor a child in Togo with Compassion UK.

Too many young people in Togo struggle to keep up with their studies when they’ve completed secondary school. A lot of them drop out of education altogether.

This brilliant new facility will give young people access to computers, resources and additional books to help them to continue learning and pursue their dreams.
