---

Attach your new January Challenge tag to your trainers, bike wheel spokes or pram handle and off you go.

Whether you choose to run round your neighbourhood, walk to the highest point in your town, or swim in the sea (eek, it’s cold in January!) we’re challenging you to cover 6km as many times as you’d like, wherever you like.

You can even set your own fundraising target with weekly prizes to be awarded!

WHY 6KM?

6km is widely regarded as the average distance an individual living in a developing country has to walk to fetch clean water.*

For children on the island of La Gonave in Haiti, the only water they have access to is salty ocean water.

By taking part in the January Challenge, you have an excuse to ask your friends and family to help.

The picture above is of a similar rainwater catchment system at a nearby project on La Gonave, Haiti.

FUNDRAISING DONE YOUR WAY

Just like the physical challenge, we’re putting the fundraising target in your hands!

The only target we’re setting is that as a team, we aim to raise £6,000 towards the rainwater catchment system in Haiti, which costs £25,000.

Maybe you will choose £60 or even £600?

Once you have signed up for the challenge, we will set up a fundraising page for you where you can add your target.

Weekly prizes will be awarded!

WE MAY LIVE SEPARATELY BUT IN JANUARY, WE’RE A FAMILY

There is an African Proverb that says, ‘If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.’

Our desire is that you will feel part of a community from all over the UK that is held together by a desire to eradicate extreme poverty.

Wherever you live, you can make a difference with us.

LET’S TRAVEL ROUND HAITI

The total distance around the coastline of Haiti starting and finishing in the capital of Port-au-Prince is more or less 1,525km.

To cover the 1,525km of coastline in 6km stretches would mean 254 lots of 6km.

Join the community taking on one, two, three or more 6km distances throughout January. If you’re cycling the January Challenge, then you could do many more!

TRACKING YOUR PROGRESS

Post your 6kms on whichever GPS tracker you use, let us know and we’ll add up our distances as we go along.

If you already use Strava, please join our clubs to track your progress:

Compassion Running Club

Compassion Cycling Club

If you don’t have an app which you can use to track the progress, Strava is a free tool which many of the community already use.

Weekly prizes for fundraising and valiant efforts will be awarded and announced on our Compassion Challenges Facebook group.
