The Kilimanjaro Challenge - January 2017

Challenge Information

At 5,895m (19,341ft), Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa, the fourth highest of the world’s Seven Summits, and the highest free-standing mountain in the world. On 9 February 2018, our team are taking on this notorious challenge and changing lives by doing so.

DATE: Friday 20 January - Saturday 28 January 2017

FUNDRAISING: £2,000 or 2 children sponsored

THE CHALLENGE

Taking place over nine days, our team fly to Kilimanjaro Airport, Tanzania on 20 January 2017. The following day will provide the opportunity to experience Compassion’s programmes in Tanzania and meet the children and young adults whose lives have been changed by sponsorship through Compassion. Later that evening, they will be briefed and make their final expedition preparations, with the trek beginning the following day. The six-day expedition will take them on the Rongai route to Kilimanjaro’s famous 5,895m summit, allowing fantastic opportunities for acclimatisation and the chance to experience the dramatic Mawenzi peak and stunning Saddle en-route. They will take on the demanding ascent to the summit prior to returning to their hotel a day later. After a celebratory team dinner that evening, the following day will offer a chance to rest until being transferred to Kilimanjaro Airport for their homeward bound flights on 28 January 2017

FUNDRAISING

It's simple really. We want to help find sponsors for as many children living in poverty as possible. All we're asking you to do is tell people about Compassion and ask if they too will become a sponsor and release a child from poverty in Jesus' name.

We set every team member a target to find 2 new sponsors or fundraise £2,000 - or any combination of the two.

The cash donations raised by the team will fund a HIV Education and Testing Campaign in Compassion projects within the area surrounding Mt Kilimanjaro.

This challenge is run in partnership with our friends at RightFoot. All T&Cs can be viewed in our FAQs section.
